Vagabond transforms a former bank into a modern wine haven featuring over 100 wines by the glass via self-service enomatic machines, controlled by contactless card or mobile app. Sample anything from 25ml tastes to full glasses, discovering exclusive small-producer wines curated by expert sommeliers. The high-ceilinged space combines industrial charm with botanical touches and a striking real indoor tree. Enjoy seasonal small plates like burrata, padron peppers, steak croquettes, charcuterie boards and fondue designed to pair with your selections. Really want to say what a great experience my husband and I had here. We had booked for a Cheese and Wine Masterclass on 14.02.2026. Right from the start, staff were really welcoming and professional. The cheese and wine session itself was great fun and definitely delicious! Anna, our tutor, highly knowledgeable but also very down to earth and made things accessible for those of us less experienced! I especially want to mention the Vagabond staff’s kindness. I have some mobility issues and struggled on the high chairs in The Vault. Without any fuss they sourced me something much more comfortable and made me feel a lot less awkward than I could have been made to feel. They also apologised (despite me not even complaining), made sure I had a low seat in their main bar afterwards and topped up my wine! The whole experience here was excellent and I couldn’t recommend it highly enough.

You load credit onto a Vagabond card or use their phone app, then pour your own wine directly from the enomatic machines at your own pace. You can try a 25ml tasting measure before committing to a medium or large glass, giving you full control over what and how much you drink. What are the opening hours?
Vagabond Birmingham is open Monday and Tuesday from 4pm–11pm, Wednesday to Friday from noon–midnight, Saturday from noon–midnight, and Sunday from noon–10pm. It opens later on weekdays, so it's primarily an after-work and evening destination Monday to Tuesday.
Is it suitable for children or is it strictly adults only?
Vagabond is a licensed wine bar with an adult-focused concept centred on alcohol discovery, so it is best suited to adults aged 18 and over. It is not marketed as a family or child-friendly venue.
When does it get busy and what's the best time to visit?
Being on Colmore Row in the heart of Birmingham's business district, it gets busiest on Thursday and Friday evenings after work and on Saturday afternoons and evenings. For a quieter, more relaxed visit, aim for a weekday lunchtime (Wednesday onwards when it opens at noon) or an early evening on Monday or Tuesday.
Do I need to book in advance or can I just walk in?
Walk-ins are welcome, but you can also book a table in advance, which is advisable for larger groups or popular Friday and Saturday slots. The Secret Vault private tasting room for up to 20 guests requires a booking.
Is there a dress code?
There is no formal dress code — Vagabond has a relaxed, urban atmosphere. Smart-casual attire is perfectly appropriate and in keeping with the stylish converted-bank setting.

Vagabond is the perfect wine bar for a night out with girlfriends or a date. It never disappoints! I love that you can choose your own wine, but also chat with someone to get a great recommendation. The food is more like small bites and is a bit overpriced for what it is, so definitely go there for the drinks rather than the food. The atmosphere is cozy and buzzing. I’ve been there lots of times and had great experiences every time… except the one time I forgot my ID so everyone, don’t forget yours!

My mom and I did a wine and cheese masterclass to celebrate her birthday. When we arrived we received a glass of fizz and met the other people taking part in the class. We were showed to the private room downstairs where wines and cheeses were already set up for us. Anna lead our class, she was very knowledgeable and happy to answer any questions. We would absolutely recommend the class to a friend and even come back to do it again. Thank you to Anna and the team! X

Visited recently and was very impressed with the concept. A very helpful lady explained to us how the self service wine works, and we were on our way. There are 3 sizes, including a small sample size for under £2 on most. I'd never had orange wine before, so it was great to be able to get a sample to give it a try. Also zero alcohol options which my tee-total wife was able to have. There is a bar with more drinks options outside of wine, and there is food being served, but I only had the wine so can't comment on the other stuff.

We had a wonderful experience at Birmingham Vagabond yesterday! We were greeted by Alex when we walked in, who was fantastic! We aren't too familiar with different wines and asked for her suggestions. She gave us some tasters and ran us through all the different types of white, rose, orange, red and fortified wines - it was hugely insightful and made the whole visit so much more enjoyable having a friendly knowledgeable member of staff to help!! We will definitely be back soon - most likely for the wine tasting and food pairings 😋
