Joey’s Smokehouse
Joey’s Smokehouse brings American low-and-slow BBQ to Digbeth with house-smoked brisket, beef ribs, lamb chops and Texas-style sausages, finished with signature rubs and homemade sauces. The menu spans meaty mains (short ribs, pulled beef), burgers piled with smoked brisket, and generous platters like the Pitmaster Feast, plus sides like mac and cheese and burnt ends. It’s a fully halal venue but welcomes bring-your-own drinks. Expect queues at weekends-staff seat walkers quickly, though the place runs hot with demand. Perfect for meat lovers and those after TikTok-famous tenderism.

Not sure where to start. I have tried quite a few smokehouses now. And by far joeys is up there at the top. The atmosphere decoration was very nice and welcoming. The menu options has a good variety, especially the platters that allow you to try multiple things on the menu at once. We went for the pitmaster platter for two which had a really big variety of meats chips and Marc and cheese. I enjoyed everything within the platter however the ribs and the pulled beef were insanely well cooked and flavoured. So was everything else but these two just stood out. the platter is enough for two. And from the photos you can see that we ate everything and left nothing behind. The customer service was also top tier with staff offering to show you the smoker after you finish your food and before you leave explaining the smoking process and showing you how the operation works. We’re definitely be back. I’m glad we stopped to try joeys. Be mindful though that this is first come first serve we ended up stopping by in the morning about an hour after opening luckily we got a table but it was surprisingly full for the time.

Joey's Smokehouse is a fantastic place to eat. It was quite busy when I visited, which is always a good sign, but the staff were friendly, attentive and kept everything running smoothly. The service was excellent from start to finish. The food was presented really well and looked as good as it tasted. Everything was cooked properly, full of flavour and clearly prepared with care. Prices are a little on the high side, but that's understandable given its city centre location. Overall, the quality of the food and service makes it well worth a visit. A great atmosphere, good service and proper tasty food.

A solid BBQ spot with very good customer service and a nice, comfortable seating setup. The staff were welcoming and attentive, which made the experience even better. We went for the sharing platters, and they were more than enough for everyone — great for groups. The highlights were definitely the pulled beef, brisket, and short rib — all nicely cooked, tender, and full of flavour. The sides were also very good, complementing the mains well. There were a few downsides though. The lamb chops had very little actual meat and were mostly fat, although the flavour itself was nice. The chicken was soft but slightly dry, and not the best overall. The Texas links were quite average, with a sausage skin that was a bit too thick. The sauces also didn’t quite hit the mark — they had a slight aftertaste that wasn’t very enjoyable. Overall, a good experience with standout BBQ meats like the brisket and ribs. Definitely somewhere I’d come back to for those, even if a few items need improvement.

Had a great experience at Joey’s Smokehouse! The food was absolutely delicious and we really enjoyed our time there. The staff were very friendly and recommended the family platter, which was perfect for sharing with my group. Everything was cooked beautifully and full of flavour. We’ll definitely be coming back again!

The food is outstanding and really tasty. Firstly we waited a couple of minutes to be acknowledged at the door and seated but no real wait, and once we ordered the food it took 23 minutes to arrive which was also reasonable. I only knocked the service down 1 star as I would have liked to have been acknowledged sooner at the door and another customer I saw didn't get seen to straight away as the server was busy, lastly you have to pay after you order which again is fine but there is also a service charge which I got told after doing contact less and I'm still not sure what the percentage charge is as I was never told. In the photos attached I had the pitmaster's mini plate I had the brisket and smoked link (sausage) with mac and cheese for side and also had the burnt ends, everything was so tasty and really nice I couldn't fault it and would have it again. My partner had the joey's cheeseburger and house chips, all again very nice the burger was so flavoursome and the chips had a nice crisp and the perfect amount of salt. The owner also came by to check on every table which was good to see. Overall I'm looking forward to going back again and trying some more of the menu and hopefully they are able to find a bigger location soon as I'm sure they will be very successful in the future.
