Satori
Satori blends Japanese tradition with modern culinary artistry in the heart of Moseley. The restaurant takes its name from the Japanese concept of Satori, a moment of awakening or enlightenment, and delivers that philosophy through meticulous craftsmanship. The menu showcases delicate sushi and sashimi platters, premium A5 Wagyu beef, expertly grilled seafood, and the signature Miso Black Cod. Each dish is presented with striking aesthetic appeal, often on kintsugi-inspired plates that reflect the Japanese art of golden joinery. The dining room features modern decor with earthy tones and resplendent purples, creating a vibrant setting with an open kitchen. Vegetarian options include the Tea Smoked Miso Aubergine, which reportedly took over 20 attempts to perfect.

From start to finish we enjoyed not just a meal, but an incredible experience. Chef Jacky’s signature tasting menu was the best Japanese dining we’ve yet to experience. Thankyou to our host and server Shirak/Bart for taking the time to explain each dish and elevating the evening with their excellent service. 10/10.

We came here for a birthday celebration and had a great experience. We each had a tasting menu and the food was delicious with attention to every detail. Drinks were lovely, the restaurant itself had a great atmosphere. Sharath is very welcoming and each staff member who served us were also friendly. A nice touch at the end of the meal is the head chef Jacky taking the time to speak to each customer at their table to ensure everything was to their liking and having a small chat. We’ll be back for sure :)

My partner and I visited Satori for his 40th birthday and they made it such a special evening! The food, drinks and service were outstanding! We opted for the signature tasting menu and while I opted for the Cocktail pairing my partner chose the Sake pairing. Our highlights were the speciality cocktail (that looked like the japanese flag and came on the signature tasting), amuse-bouche, crab and wagyu sushi, the yellowtail sashimi, the vegetable and lobster tempura, miso blackened cod with that delectable sauce and pickled tomato, of course the Wagyu and wagyu dripping chips and the little yuzu chocolates at the end. We both loved every single one of the drinks served as part of the pairings and found they complimented the courses perfectly. I especially loved the sakura cocktail and my partner loved the plum sake, although the cocktail on the signature menu was really the one which had a lasting impact and memory for both of us, that incredible flavour alone would bring us back again. The addition of the Japanese homemade cake slice given to celebrate the birthday was a lovely touch! Everyone was so friendly, knowledgeable and clearly had a passion and care towards what they were doing. Fabulous all round, we will definitely make the trip back to Birmingham to eat here again in the future!

We visited Satori this weekend as a combined late Christmas/birthday present for my partner who is, like myself, an avid lover of Japanese cuisine, and we were not disappointed. Prior to the experience, communication with the restaurant was excellent, having needed to change the date of the original booking. No fuss, and a courteous call to confirm the change, and also on the day of the booking that they were expecting us. We were fortunate enough to be seated with a view of the kitchen pass, watching the plating come together before service. This really added to the overall experience, getting to watch the excellent skill at work. We started with a complimentary cocktail and pre-appetizer (amuse bouche) which set the mood - promptly followed by an exquisite sushi course. The fish was fresh, incredibly flavourful, and delicious. Every course thereafter was competing against the last over how good they were - but every dish very much complimented the overall menu offering. The cod in particular was outstanding - light, flakey, melt in your mouth. It was very hard to choose a favorite, but the sushi and cod certainly were top contenders. The meal was nicely rounded off with the signature matcha tea flombae, which was not shy in Japanese whisky. It really was an excellent dessert. As a bonus, as the team were aware it was my partner's birthday, we were treated to a light traditional Japanese raspberry sponge - incredibly fresh and light, and we also had an opportunity to talk to the chef - Jackie - to express our gratitude for the excellent food. This was a great experience, and certainly well worthy of the Michelin recognition. If you are looking for a Japanese fine dining experience, look no further.
